Using Data for Action
About the Project
Project Name: Data and Action Framework
Our Role: Created Data and Action Guide
Funded by: Massachusetts Department of Public Health
We developed a Data to Action Framework to advance the efforts of the MA Department of Public Health's Community Health Equity Initiative and the Root Cause Solutions Exchange. The Community Health Equity Initiative collects data on the social and structural causes of health experienced by Massachusetts residents, specifically among communities impacted by structural racism and other drivers of inequity. CHEI collaborates with community, state, and local partners in using data to drive funding, programming, and policy change to advance health equity. The Root Cause Solutions Exchange is a community-driven hub that offers digital resources and networking to help people who live and work in Massachusetts create healthier, more equitable, and more resilient communities for everyone.
The Data and Action Guide is meant to provide guidance to organizations, municipalities, and other stakeholders about effectively using data to improve health outcomes and equity. The Guide outlines key elements to consider throughout the process, offering specific steps and overarching considerations, complemented by real-life examples, best practices, and additional resources.
How does Health Equity Show Up?
The Data and Action Framework is a collaborative process that centers health equity to drive change. To make lasting and meaningful change, it is important to involve a variety of stakeholders to ensure that we are collecting the right information, interpreting it correctly, and focusing on areas of action that have the greatest likelihood to make change. Community members know their communities the best, and by having their voice and those of other key stakeholders in the process of using data for action, we are going to have the greatest likelihood of seeing sustainable change.
