The city broke ground on the center on Dec. 13th, for a 62,000-square-foot facility to be built on Cadwell Drive in Springfield and should be fully operational before the start of the 2019-20 school year. The goal of the Springfield Schools’ Culinary and Nutrition Center is to serve Springfield public schools fresh meals, cooked from scratch as well as create a culinary job training center.

The $21 million project, funded through government and private sources, is being supported by several partners with an interest in food policy, such as the EOS Foundation, Trinity Health, Kendall Foundation, the Public Health Institute of Western MA, and other members of the Live Well Springfield Coalition, especially the Springfield Food Policy Council.

"What I love most about facilitating Cultural Humility is not what people learn about each other, but what they learn about themselves. The more we know about how we get to be who we are, the more we can understand and relate to someone else’s journey. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone come to the realization that they are more like others in the room than they are different.
